Cops have protection but not their dogs?

Police dogs are not automatically given vests for their body. Their human partner has to be able to afford the vest. It should be an automatic law, if you have a police dog, they must have a vest for their body. However, these days all police dogs are not protected by body vests.

The News-Press reported on the cover of its Local and State section yesterday that, "K-9 units are seeing a disturbing trend in their pursuits. Instead of succumbing, criminals are often violently attacking police dogs."

Here is a story of a man from Sarasota, Fla who killed a police dog. The man killed a police dog because he was trying to get away from the cops.

Laws against dog fighting and animal neglect/cruelty need to be firm. Laws also need to be taken serious by those who set them and those who brake them. The people who break the law should be punished with serious time in jail. People might stop the abuse toward animals if they knew they would go to jail, if they broke the law.

Criminals know that if they kill a cop they will most likely get the death penalty. What if the same law was applied to their dogs? A cop's dog is their partner, they help catch the criminals. But too often criminals are attempting and often succeeding in killing the dog and nobody cares. At the moment there are not any laws to protect police dogs. I think it's time for a change. Laws have to be made to protect police dogs if the dogs are killed in the line of duty.

The only thing I am sure about is laws need to be made concerning the welfare and safety of all animals including police dogs. Those who kill a dog, domestic dog or police, criminals need to be punished. You can not kill an innocent animal and get away with it.
