It is very expensive to eat healthy and to "go green"

The La Times reported, in a recent survey some would pay more for green PCs and TVs. I would as well. But that is not the point. The point is why? Why does it have to cost more money to "go green?" Why does it cost more to eat better and healthier foods? The hybrid car costs an average of $3000 more than the conventional car.

According to the Journal of Food and Science, "organic food is 10 to 40 percent higher in price than similair conventionally-produced products."

Why is it that you can spend 20 dollars in a grocery store like Publix and walk about with a lot of fruit and vegetables. On the other hand if you were to spend 20 dollars in a grocery store like Whole Foods Market you would only walk out with two or three fruits and vegetables.

Why can you get a meal for five dollars at Wendy's on their dollar menu?

It is so incredibly easy for people to be unhealthy and obese. In today's world it almost seems that companies want you to be obese? I don't really know, we live in a crazy world.

Manatees need our help

According to the News-Press, "For such a docile creature, the Florida manatee sure can keep a controversy boiling. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will vote Wednesday whether to reclassify the manatee from endangered to threatened on the state’s list of imperiled species. State scientists and recreational fishermen say reclassification is scientifically justified; the leading manatee-advocacy organization says the science demands that manatees remain endangered."

This in really incredible. Manatees are gentle slow moving creatures. They need humans to protect them, by keeping them on the endangered list and making an attempt to protect them. I live on a canal. A very populated manatee area. Along with their devistating fate, people on boats that go by very fast. I see it everyday, the boats go speeding by without a care. Without so much as taking the time to slow down and turn off their propellers. I try to protect them by asking which really amounts to yelling because the boats are speeding by, to slow down. Most of the time, boaters don't care. My neighbor spent money and time puting up a sign, manatee zone. Boaters still don't slow down.

The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources uses the same science that the state adopted, and determined that the manatee meets the criteria for being endangered,” manatee club Executive Director Pat Rose said. “We’ve been saying it all along, but this turns it from supposition to fact.“If you use the same science and same criteria, you’ll come out with endangered. Had the state done that, there’s no question the manatee would remain endangered.”

With teen harrasment and suicide on the rise, I believe that mandatory self worth/self esteem classes help.

According to CNN, Megan Meier, 13, killed herself after receiving a critical message on the MySpace social networking site from someone she thought was a boy named "Josh."

Missouri prosecutor said Monday "no charges would be sought in the case of a teen who hanged herself last year after chatting on MySpace, although he said adults should have prevented the tragedy."

Indeed this is a tragedy. One that could have been prevented. You can watch an emotional video with Megan's parents talking about her suicide.

According to the Baltimore Sun, in regard to Megans death, 64 percent of youths are harrassed online.

St. Charles County, Missouri, Prosecuting Attorney Jack Banas said, "Missouri's harassment statute says nothing about the Internet, and the stalking statute requires repeated conversations, so neither would apply in this case."

Since the harrasment and suicide among teens keeps rising, why doesn't each state update their statutes? Are they lazy? Don't they care? It sickens me to know that nobody will be charged in Megans suicide because Missouri statue says nothing about the internet!

I propose a mandatory self worth/esteem class required for middle school and high school. Why not? Schools make students take mandatory physical ed, sex ed, and drivers ed. I don’t know what it is? Maybe students don’t have enough guidance at home? Maybe they aren’t taught to value and respect themselves as well as others? All I know is times are changing, rapidly. We have got to help our youth.

A 10 year old boy started California wildfire

How does it make you feel that a 10 year old boy set a fire that destroyed 21 homes spread out through 60 square miles?

It makes me angry. I can imagine that those 21 people who lost their homes set by a boy are pretty angry too.

However, fire charges will be considered by prosectors. They haven't made a decision on whether or not they will charge the boy.

"It was a child-set fire, but it is not clear what his intentions were at this time," said Bill McSweeney, chief of the Los Angeles County sheriff's homeland security department.

It was clear to me what his intentions were and the boy should be punished to the fulliest extent of the law, no matter his age. I'm so over the law when it has 2 seperate punishments for children and adults. If you commit the crime, you have to do the time. Any child knows full well what they are doing when it's bad they must have consequences just as an adult would.

People please lets make this boy an example, please punish him as if he were an adult.

According to an article from Yahoo.com, some legal experts say serious criminal charges are unlikely. To win an arson conviction, prosecutors would have to prove the boy intended to cause harm, which would be difficult given that they seem to have accepted his explanation that the fire was an accident, said Cyn Yamashiro, who directs Loyola Law School's Center for Juvenile Law and Policy.

In a news conference Wednesday, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said he did not think the child meant any harm.

I wonder why Schwarzenegger felt the need to say this, because he has no place speaking for a 10 year old, especially when it comes to the boys intentions. Schwarzenegger didn't do any reseach for all he knows the boy could have lost a bet with friends and next thing you know he starts a fire.

Cops have protection but not their dogs?

Police dogs are not automatically given vests for their body. Their human partner has to be able to afford the vest. It should be an automatic law, if you have a police dog, they must have a vest for their body. However, these days all police dogs are not protected by body vests.

The News-Press reported on the cover of its Local and State section yesterday that, "K-9 units are seeing a disturbing trend in their pursuits. Instead of succumbing, criminals are often violently attacking police dogs."

Here is a story of a man from Sarasota, Fla who killed a police dog. The man killed a police dog because he was trying to get away from the cops.

Laws against dog fighting and animal neglect/cruelty need to be firm. Laws also need to be taken serious by those who set them and those who brake them. The people who break the law should be punished with serious time in jail. People might stop the abuse toward animals if they knew they would go to jail, if they broke the law.

Criminals know that if they kill a cop they will most likely get the death penalty. What if the same law was applied to their dogs? A cop's dog is their partner, they help catch the criminals. But too often criminals are attempting and often succeeding in killing the dog and nobody cares. At the moment there are not any laws to protect police dogs. I think it's time for a change. Laws have to be made to protect police dogs if the dogs are killed in the line of duty.

The only thing I am sure about is laws need to be made concerning the welfare and safety of all animals including police dogs. Those who kill a dog, domestic dog or police, criminals need to be punished. You can not kill an innocent animal and get away with it.

Free speech and the fate of J. David McSwane, editor in chief of The Rocky Mountain Collegian.

Please take a moment to read about J. David McSwane the Colorado College Editor Faces Hearing Next Week Over Editorial. In case you want to read more here is another article.

Now that you have read what is going on in Colorado, what is your reaction? After I read this I was filled with anger towards the group of college republicans and others who are way too sensitive.

"The question of free speech quickly became political, with a campus group, the College republicans circulating a petition calling for Mr. McSwane’s resignation"

WTF?!?!?! If the issue of using the "F" word is means a college group of republicans is going to petition for your resignation then beware to everyone, republicans are on the loose. Come on people first of all, there are more important things going on in the world other than the F word being published. People are dying, starving and being abused and murdered oh lets not forget the never ending war we are in. Please don't forget about the world that is falling victim to global warming and the extinction of animals.

In my opinion J. David McSwane was well within his rights to publish and say what he wants. I would do anything in my power to see that he doesn't get fired.

I will say this I don't feel that it is every necessary to use curse words in any situation. However, it's our right to free speech to say them any time we please.

Buying a ticket to a movie even when you don't have time to watch it.

Yes I bought a ticket to a movie just so my money could be counted in for opening weekend numbers......and I didn't even stay to watch it. I was too busy this weekend to watch a movie but, it was important to me that I helped out Dane Cook. I believe in him, I adore him and I been waiting for months to see "Good Luck Chuck". Everyone knows that the opening weekend is the most important in movies, so I contributed my part.

The comedy "Good Luck Chuck"starring Dane Cook and Jessica Alba just opened this past weekend with a review from the Nytimes.com.

I'm proud to have helped opening weekend numbers and I will gladly buy another ticket and actually stay to see the movie next weekend.

Dane Cook; comedian, actor, musician, the guy on myspace.com who has over 2 million friends and a cutie with a Boston accent. In case you don't know about Dane or his comedy check out his official website.

My co-workers said I was stupid for running out to buy a ticket on my lunch break. But you can't let others discourage you in doing something you believe in.

I met Dane back in 2003 at a comedy club in Tampa, I have been a fan ever since.

Taking a stand against dog fighting and animal cruelty. (please click this link)

I have always loved football. However, when a certain NFL quarterback (I can't even bring myself to mention his name), was charged and pled guilty to dog fighting and animal cruelty including the murder of dogs. I cut football out of my life forever.

Since that horrible day back on July 17, 2007 when I heard and saw images of that that thing and by thing I mean NFL quarterback did to those dogs, I have cut off football from my life. Yes just that quick. You have to start somewhere when you believe in something with all of your heart.

The NFL should take a stand against dog fighting and animal cruelty. They should rewrite their contracts with the players stating the issue. The NFL should do this because dog fighting and animal cruelty is not only illegal it's inhumane.

A perfect example of someone voiceing their opinion on issues that are important to them is PETA. They are setting a perfect example of standing up for what you believe in.

Michael Vick gave a speech apologizing but to who? It sure wasn't to the hundreds of innocent dogs. Just because he apologized in public, doesn't mean the public have to believe him. Especially when Michael Vick has been involved with dog fighting his entire life.

I encourage you to take a stand in something you believe in.

Please take a moment of your time to lobby for animals.

Larry Craig and Rob Zombie - is there more of a connection than you think?

Personally, I don't like people who break the law. To me there isn't a difference between a republican, a sexual predator (in Larry Craig's case they are one in the same). Also, when movie writers/producers show evil/torture/violence on the big screen and label it "entertainment."

"Craig wants to see if he can get his guilty plea overturned. And he's got a lawyer who thinks the Senate ethics committee should not bother looking into Craig's behavior because it's a misdemeanor."

Craig's lawyers say his behavior in this matter is "wholly unrelated" from this CNN article to his official duties, what?!?)

On the topic of Craig's lewd behavior his lawyer said it's "wholly unrelated to his job." It seems that being a pervert is ok?

Lets take a short journey into the world of horror movies. Rob Zombie released the movie "House of 1000 Corpses" back in 2003. This movie is pure evil...click here to find out more.

Movie producers such as Rob Zombie write and create movies like "House of 1000 Corpses" that portray evil, murder and psychotics enjoying themselves while torturing others. I ask myself, how did they come up with this story? It really isn't that far fetched from the world we live in.

I also ask myself why is it ok for politicians mainly republicans to break the law and be sexual predators without consequence?

Movies such as "House of 1000 Corpses" display psychotics breaking the law without consequence as well.

I think the message the political & entertainment world is sending out an irresponsible message. The message seems to be if you break the law you will be punished but if "I" break the law there is not any consequence because "I" am in political office, or "I" am just creating a movie for entertainment.
